The Herreshoff Marine Museum covers the area's rich tradition of competitive sailing, with a special emphasis on the achievements of the renowned Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. It features more than 60 original, beautifully restored Herreshoff yachts as well as more than 500 study models, a variety of steam engines, artifacts and photos. The museum hosts regular lectures and other events and contains the America's Cup Hall of Fame, which honors competitors in the maritime race since its inception in 1851. It lies against the Narragansett Bay in Bristol, less than a mile northwest of Roger Williams University.
